Our History

Carolina International School (CIS) opened its doors in Harrisburg, NC during the fall of 2004 as Cabarrus County's first charter school, serving Kindergarten through 7th grade. CIS was founded under the vision of international community leader Nimish Bhatt, the steadfast work of Dr. Richard Beall and efforts of the founding Board of Directors. Dr. Beall served as the school’s first Director and worked tirelessly on obtaining the original charter approval and successfully opening the school.

In the fall of 2014, CIS moved into our current campus on 82 acres near the corner of Poplar Tent and Cox Mill Rd. The school expanded to serve K-12 and graduated its first senior class in 2016.

What our Parents SAY

“We came to CIS because several neighbors in our neighborhood were commenting on the school and how positive a change there was in their children's overall success.”

Mrs. Sharon Smith

The World is Our Family

This statement well expresses our embrace of this world we live in and our understanding of our relationship to it. We truly embrace the rich diversity found in our world today, welcome it to our 'doorstep', and look to engage positively and constructively with all its members in all their diversity. To call the world our family expresses our self-understanding, and we hope our school to be a microcosm of much of the wider world we live in.
