National Honors Society

National Honor Society at Carolina International School

Celebrating Excellence through Scholarship • Service • Leadership • Character

At Carolina International School, we are proud to be part of the National Honor Society (NHS)—a distinguished organization built on four guiding pillars: Scholarship, Service, Leadership, and Character. These pillars are more than expectations; they are stepping stones that help students discover their strengths, grow as leaders, and make a lasting difference in their communities and the world.

Scholarship

At CIS, scholarship is about more than grades—it’s about curiosity, growth, and a true love of learning. We encourage students to explore knowledge both in and beyond the classroom, to ask questions, seek answers, and embrace every learning opportunity. Through their commitment to education, our scholars build the foundation to become thoughtful, informed, and impactful contributors to society.

Service

Service is at the heart of what it means to be part of NHS. Our students learn the value of stepping forward to help others, driven by kindness, empathy, and purpose. Whether through school initiatives or community outreach, they discover the joy of making a difference and understand that even small acts of service can create a powerful ripple effect.

Leadership

Leadership at CIS is about inspiring others through action. We believe great leaders listen, collaborate, and uplift those around them. NHS members take initiative, foster teamwork, and help create a positive environment where everyone can thrive. They learn to guide with compassion and confidence—skills that will serve them well long after graduation.

Character

Character is the foundation of who we are as individuals and as a community. Our students strive to demonstrate integrity, respect, empathy, and perseverance in all they do. By embracing diversity and making choices guided by strong values, they build meaningful connections and contribute to a culture of trust and respect.

As part of the national organization, our chapter follows guidelines set by the NHS Constitution and Handbook. Scholarship is the first step toward membership, with a required cumulative GPA. Additional criteria for selection are determined locally, ensuring that we recognize students who embody all four pillars in meaningful ways.

We are excited to welcome future NHS members and celebrate the incredible contributions of those who continue to make Carolina International School a place of learning, service, and leadership.
