Lottery Process

By law, CIS must conduct a public lottery to fill any openings in each grade. Our public lottery will be held on our campus starting at 9:00 a.m the first Saturday in March. THIS PROCESS SHOULD ONLY TAKE 1 HOUR BUT OUR BUILDING WILL BE OPEN TILL 12:00 PM IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME BY TO CHECK THE RESULTS.  Notifications, stating wait list number, will be sent out via email following the lottery.

Prospective parents, including families that currently have a child enrolled in CIS, must submit a Student Application Form for each child they want to enroll. All students who apply by Friday, Feb. 24, 2017, 11:59 pm, will be included in the lottery drawing for that grade, which will be March 4, 2017. Applications received after the designated date of Feb. 24, 2017 will NOT be included in the lottery but will be added to the Wait List in the order received.

Lottery Procedure

The Lottery drawing will be generated by a computer program. The order in which the application is submitted has no bearing on bettering chances for selection since the lottery is a random drawing. Parents will receive confirmation that their child's online application has been submitted successfully and entered into a computer database for the Sibling Lottery or the General Lottery to be held March 4, 2017.

The first round of selections will be for the Employee Lottery; the second round will be for the Sibling Lottery; and the third round will be for the General Admission Lottery.

Parents may attend the live, public lottery but attendance is not required. THIS PROCESS SHOULD ONLY TAKE 1 HOUR BUT OUR BUILDING WILL BE OPEN TILL 12:00 PM IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO COME BY TO CHECK THE RESULTS. Attending the lottery does not improve or lessen chances of admission. Families will be notified by email regarding their lottery number after the day of the lottery.

When an opening becomes available at the applicable grade level, students will be admitted based on their current lottery number. If registrants who are selected for admission decide NOT to enroll at CIS, the parents of the next child on the Wait List for that grade will be notified immediately. Most offers of enrollment will be made as soon as possible following the lottery.

Sibling Policies

CIS supports the policy of families with multiple children attending the school together. Charter school law allows us to give lottery priority to siblings of currently enrolled students. Siblings are granted priority in the lottery process. Contact main office for further information (704) 455-3847.

For example, if a family has three children applying to CIS and one is offered admission for the 2017-2018 school year, the other two siblings remain on the Wait List with their number drawn, until an opening occurs for that number. Should no openings occur in 2017-18 and the family would still like the siblings to attend CIS, new applications must be submitted for the 2018-2019 school year. During the lottery, applicants who are siblings of current students will be drawn first. [If there are 5 siblings waiting to enter 3rd grade the siblings will get W01, WO2, W03, W04, W05.] We cannot guarantee admission to any sibling; enrollment will depend upon available space.

All parents of students presently on the 2016-17 waiting list (with or without siblings) who would like to attend CIS in 2017-2018 must complete new applications for 2017-18 by the application deadline. Applications for any student received after this date will be added to the CIS Grade Level Wait List based on the date of receipt. The student will be admitted only after the lottery Wait List has been exhausted.

PLEASE NOTE: A student must currently attend CIS at the time of the current year's lottery in order for siblings to receive priority drawing status under the sibling rule.
