On behalf of our entire school community, welcome to the State Report Card for Carolina International School for the 2006-7 school year.
When Carolina International School was being established, we emphasized that this would not be a test-driven school, that we would not sacrifice holistic student development to improve standardized test scores. It was our belief that if we implemented best educational practices—like inquiry- and project-based learning, individualized instruction, and our emphasis on international and environmental studies—our test results would take care of themselves.
We are pleased to share this federally mandated School Report Card because it provides useful information to the community and because it supports our approach to education. Once again in 2006-7, Carolina International School earned the “School of Distinction” rating.
We’re proud of our dedicated teachers and staff. They have taken on the challenge of creating a new institution and developing innovative ways of learning. We’re grateful for the confidence that our parents/guardians had in enrolling their children, and for all their countless contributions to our school quality of life. We’re excited about what we have achieved together, and what the future holds.
There are many ways of measuring the success of a school. In this report card you’ll find information in four categories, with much detailed data:
· School Profile: enrollment, sources and uses of funds
· High Student Performance: various test results and the school’s rating
· Safe, Orderly, and Caring Schools: safety, attendance, access to technology, school health, and parent involvement
· Quality Teachers: licensure and state-wide working conditions survey
